Bali - Day 7
After breakfast, we walked around on Monkey road looking for coffee while we waiting for Mariam and Meda to join. Two coffees later, Mariam and Meda still hadn’t showed and we were getting concerned. They had just rented a scooter and they had never driven one before. Not only that, but they’ve never actually been anywhere where they drive on the other side of the road.
We head out to Ubud Palace since it was close by and hoped to meet them there. Since L takes her time walking and I was popping in and out of shops, Mariam and Meda finally made contact and had arrived at the Palace. We sped up our pace and met them there. Turns out they had to take a minor detour to look for gas, but other then suffering through major heat, they were doing alright.
Ubud Palace and Saraswati Temple are unfortunately disappointing. Mostly because they’re almost completely closed off. The royal family still live in the palace, which means that just a two open squares are open to the public. We spent a few hours strolling around the open market in the area and then headed off for lunch. The markets sell a variety of clothes and wooden trinkets, as well as masks, and a seemingly large amount of bottle openers shaped like penises. I’m not entirely sure why that is, but I also noticed it in Seminyak. It seems to be a popular thing at the moment.
Lunch at the Melting Wok was spectacular. The food was by far the best we’ve had since coming to Bali and relatively cheaper than most places. We had naan with curry dip for starters and noodles in curry sauce and chicken with rice as main dishes. All dishes were excellent. They even provided a rice and chicken dish for L.
I have to say, Bali is incredibly child friendly, it’s encouraged me to travel more with the LittleOne. A lot more than I expected.
Now that the rest of gang has arrived, we’ll be heading out to the Monkey Forest tomorrow morning.
