Bali - Day 3
Our first real sightseeing destination was the temple of Tanah Lot. We hopped into an uber and drove around an hour from Seminyak. We chatted a bit with the uber driver and he told us how local taxis are fighting them. It seems some areas are unsafe for uber drivers and other areas where they are completely forbidden from entering, Tanah Lot being one of them. I’m not surprised though, considering that uber prices are almost half the price of metered taxis.
Tanah Lot is a temple built on an outcrop in the ocean. The temple itself is quite small and tourists aren’t really allowed there at all, which is a shame. The cliff area around it has beautiful views and there are gardens aplenty. Interestingly enough, there’s a sign at the entrance that warns against earthquakes, stating that if an earthquake occurs, a tsunami will probably follow and not to panic. Not-bloody likely. If an earthquake does occur, I probably would’ve panicked anyway, knowing that it might lead to a tsunami will not help keep me calm, that’s for sure.
The place itself is quite peaceful, even though there are quite a few stalls there selling touristy items. The sellers aren’t pushy though, which is definitely a plus. We sat down for the famous Luwak coffee, which was extremely expense but definitely delicious.
On the way, we tried to find an uber without success, we had even walked away from the temple and onto the main road. Unfortunately it started raining, so we had to take shelter in a small cafeteria for over an hour. By that time, we had order food and drinks, and still no uber in sight. An hour and a half later, we hired a “taxi” to take us back to Semiyak, paying more than double what we paid with uber getting there. L had fallen asleep in the car and since we had planned to stop for dinner, she didn’t really appreciated being dragged to a restaurant. We had to eat quickly, which wasn’t difficult considering the miniature portions and headed on home.
