Beirut, Beirut, Beirut

Summer has finally come and we’re getting ready to travel again. We spent quite a bit of time discussing our summer plans, with limited time and limited money, it was really a tough one. This summer is also a special one. Well for one thing, the little one is walking and talking, she has her own ideas of how she wants to spend her time, and for another, Hussein is off for a year to study after the summer. This has two main consequences: the first being that we wanted to spend as much time together as a couple and as a family, and the second, that money was really tight. Lucky for us though, our good friend Rita invited us to her wedding in Beirut. As if we really needed an excuse to visit Beirut

That being said, experiencing Beirut the right way, is probably best done without a toddler :). But not to worry, that’s where grandparents come in. Hussein flew off to Cairo to drop off the little moster and met me in Beirut.

So first things, first: Bachelor and Bachelorette parties :). I bid my husband farewell as I hop into a van with the girls. I’d only been in Beirut one time before, many years ago, in winter. It was just a great then as it is now. The traffic was equally as terrible, but no matter. An hour and a half later, we found ourselves at a beach resort. The set up is beautiful, sandy beaches, blue blue water, and every where little bunglows with their own little hot-tubs overlooking the beach. The girls kept on coming to our little private party and we dangled our feet in the water, had drinks and played games. The bride-to-be was stunning. She arrived dressed in white, cheeks flushed, and smiling. We relaxed in the sun and just had some good ol’ girl fun.

The boys made it over to us later that night, with perhaps a little too much to drink. The music was blasting, people were dancing and everyone was feeling good. Hussein and I went for a little nighttime swim in the sea, one of the best ideas ever. The water was warm, the sand smooth, and overall just amazing.

By the time the night ended, we were fully spent. We stopped by for some street food before heading off to bed.
