Our final day in Hamburg was particularly good. Originally we had planned to have brunch somewhere downtown on the water’s edge, but then decided to do something different. We figured we could always go for brunch, but since we’re not in Hamburg every day, we should really do something that is special to Hamburg.
We woke up early, packed up and tidied up the apartment and rushed over to rent a canoe. I have to say we were really lucky with the weather. We took an hour tour (there really wasn’t all that much time till our train, so an hour is really all we had) and we had a very relaxed one hour. We took easy and didn’t over exert ourselves with the paddling, as a matter of fact it was more like we were just letting the water carry us away instead of really paddling, which if you ask me, was exactly what the doctor ordered. It was so unbelievably relaxing in the canals, with the sun shining down on us (it did get a bit hot though), listening to the birds and looking at all the houses on the water’s edge. Some of those houses are truly amazing. If someone offered me a house I could afford over there, I would move in a heartbeat. It’s so peaceful and relaxing, and so close to nature, and yet still in the middle of a vibrant city. It’s the perfect combination.
We might have been a little too relaxed because we had to really made an effort the last 20 minutes or so to make sure we got back in time. That was really about the time we had. We went back to the house, picked up our stuff and headed off to the train station. We grabbed a little bite to eat and were just in time for the train. Then it was home, sweet, home.
